Julie T. Anné, Ph.D. is a Licensed Clinical
Psychologist and the Founder and Clinical Director of A New Beginning, LLC. Dr.
Anné received her master's and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology
from the California School of Professional Psychology - San Diego and her
bachelor's degree and doctoral clinical training from Arizona State University.
Dr. Anné has been board licensed in the state of Arizona since 1993.
Dr. Anné's extensive 16 years of clinical experience includes
conducting individual, group, couples, and family psychotherapy in both
inpatient and outpatient settings; professional consultation; clinical
supervision; program development; research and training. In addition, Dr.
Anné has been a guest speaker on the topic of eating disorders in a
multitude of settings and is frequently asked to serve as an expert in the
field of eating disorders. Dr. Anné is currently writing children's
books directed towards instilling positive self-esteem and self-image in young
children as well as aiding parents in positive parenting techniques.
Whether working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, eating
disorders, low self-esteem, codependency, identity issues, psychological
trauma, and/or with couples struggling to regain a fleeting sense of joy and
satisfaction in their relationship, Dr. Anné helps individuals to
identify, and then resolve, the underlying issues which are obstructing their
ability to break past dysfunctional patterns and helps them to achieve a
lasting state of emotional health and happiness. Dr. Anné's
enthusiasm for helping others transform their psychological difficulties into
personal triumph is evidenced in her endless energy, fierce commitment, and
deep compassion for others as well as her firm belief that all individuals can
recover fully from psychological disorders including all eating disorders,
depression, and anxiety. Dr. Anné's life work is directed towards
helping individuals achieve an ongoing state of personal satisfaction and
happiness, genuine self-esteem, loving self-acceptance, and the development of
a strong sense of personal identity and empowerment. When this is achieved,
individuals can have loving, healthy relationships with both themselves and
others, and can live life in a manner that is supportive of their own personal
needs and enthusiastically expressive of their true, inner self While
Dr. Anné enjoys working with a broad range of clients, she has a special
affinity for working with individuals struggling with anorexia and bulimia and
is currently developing a subspecialty in the area of male eating disorders.
Additionally, Dr. Anné works extensively with couples in marital and/or
relationship counseling as well as with parents struggling with stress
management, general parenting issues, and/or trying to achieve a healthy
balance of self and family in an often hectic, demanding world. Lastly, Dr.
Anné is trained in EMDR and utilizes this exciting therapeutic technique
to treat a broad range of difficulties including: past and/or current
psychological trauma, anxiety, negative and/or self-sabotaging belief systems
and eating disorders.

Betsy Van Tuinen, Psy. D., LPC is a clinical psychologist
who received her master's and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the
Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and her bachelor's degree from
Michigan State University. She completed clinical training at the Kovler Center
for Survivors of Torture, Cook County Hospital, and Arizona's Children
Association. Dr. Van Tuinen then went on to Remuda Ranch, where she worked with
adolescents and adults suffering from eating disorders. She has facilitated
many educational presentations on eating disorders designed for children,
adolescents, and professionals; and currently specializes in the treatment of
trauma, eating disorders, personality disorders, and spiritual issues.
While she enjoys working with a wide range of clients, Dr. Van Tuinen
particularly enjoys working with adolescents and their families,individuals
struggling with relationship difficulties, and clients with trauma and abuse
issues. Additionally, she has worked extensively with clients suffering from
depression, anorexia,bulimia, borderline personality disorder, and
posttraumatic stress disorder. Dr. Van Tuinen focuses on helping clients
discover the function of their negative behaviors, while learning new positive
behaviors that lead to healthy patterns of living. She is dedicated to helping
each individual and family heal from theirpsychological wounds and create life
long changes.

Anna Brennan M.A., LAMFT received her Masters degree in
Marriage Family and Child Counseling and her Bachelors degree in Biology from
Santa Clara University. Her clinical internship included working with children,
adolescents, couples, and families at the Teen Counseling Center, Alum Rock
Counseling Center, and the Process Therapy Institute in Northern California.
She has also worked with college-age and adult women as Director of Counseling
Services at the Crisis Pregnancy Centers of Greater Phoenix, Inc. and as a
Primary Therapist Remuda Ranch Treatment Centers. Ms. Brennan has an affinity
for working with individuals struggling with eating disorders, trauma, abuse,
neglect, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, guilt/shame, and relationship issues.
She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings and is a member of the
American Association of Christian Counselors and is an associate member of the
American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Ms. Brennan believes that
individuals can heal given a safe, supportive environment and the tools and
life skills for recovery. She is committed to encouraging others to uncover and
understand beliefs and patterns of behavior that are ineffective, to helping
them learn new and effective skills, and to discovering what is true about
their identity, worth, and value. Her passion is to encourage and empower
individuals, couples, and families to apply these truths and skills in order to
change ineffective patterns of thought and behavior and establish new and
healthy ones so that they may live fulfilling lives of wholeness, freedom, and
joy.

Brina Jergenson,
RD is a Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist specializing in the
field of Eating Disorders. She is originally from the Midwest and received her
Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of
Minnesota-Twin Cities. She has a 10 year history of being a Registered
Dietitian and has a passion for helping those struggling with eating disorders
and other food related issues. She has had specialized training in eating
disorders and has treated anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive eating in both
inpatient and outpatient settings. As an advocate of prevention of eating
disorders, she has also taught many classes to elementary, middle school, and
high school students regarding the signs and symptoms of eating disorders.
Brina's practice is unique in that she strives to meet clients where they
are at and gently and effectively moves them toward a life of freedom with
food. Her approach includes a complete nutrition assessment including body
composition testing, nutrition education, and meal planning. Nutrition
education includes valuable information on fad diets, exercise, and nutrition
myths as well as basic information on carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Along
with education, Brina provides support and accountability to ensure change. She
also plays an integral part in A New Beginning's Meal Success program that
works to provide accountability and support as clients move more towards normal
eating.
In addition to eating disorders, Brina also counsels clients
in the following areas: Weight Management for children,
adolescents, and adults Pre- and Post Gastric Bypass or Gastric Band nutrition
counseling Diabetes education (currently pursuing CDE certification).

Melissa Lakin, M.C., LPC, is a licensed associate counselor. She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Arizona State University and her Master’s degree in Community Counseling from the University of Phoenix. She completed her clinical internship at The Meadows inpatient treatment center, and stayed on thereafter as a primary and family therapist, specializing in working with individuals and families struggling with eating disorders, substance abuse, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse. Melissa also has a variety of training and experience with family and couples therapy in combination with providing psychoeducation and support in approaching psychological conditions and disorders. She has over ten years experience working in behavioral health, ranging from community-based services, residential treatment, intensive outpatient programs, home-based and school-based counseling, and as a clinical therapist in both outpatient behavioral health agencies and inpatient facilities. Melissa has a special affinity for working with individuals who struggle with bulimia, anorexia, compulsive overeating, relationship issues, trauma, depression, and anxiety. One of Melissa’s specialties is working with adolescents, teenagers, and young adults who struggle with self-esteem and body image issues; assisting and supporting them with strengthening their feelings of self-love and worth, and establishing boundaries and communication skills in interpersonal relationships. Melissa believes that each person is capable of integrating their individual, unique characteristics to enhance the process of recovery, and that healing can occur at any age.

Jan Sickler,
M.A., L.P.C.. received her Master's in Counseling from Prescott College in Arizona.She began her undergraduate work at Mt. Holyoke College in Massachusetts majoring in Comparative Religions and completed her Bachelor's at UCLA in English and Theatre Arts. These studies and experiences have enhanced and benefited her work as a therapist. Her counseling career began in the 80's as a consultant to corporations for team building and schools where she successfully used drama therapy to help high risk students.
Her internship involved Eating Disorders. She was immediately drawn to this population and has helped men, women and adolescents overcome their struggle to accept themselves - their feelings, their bodies, their potential.
She also finds it rewarding to work with individuals who suffer from trauma, anxiety, grief and loss. She has spent time working in the Hospice Community focusing on bereavement. She works with couples and families in ways to support and honor one another as well as grow as individuals.
Jan is a long term EMDR practitioner. She views this technique as an excellent adjunct to more cognitive/behavioral modalities.
Jan's work is based on the belief that all human beings desire health and well-being. We may take detours on the journey in order to cope and survive, but with support we can learn tom trust, find meaning and survive.

Sheldon P.
Wagman, D.O., FACN is a Board Certified Psychiatrist and graduate of
the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine with five years of additional
psychiatric residency training, including three years solely devoted to
adolescent training. He is currently Director of Psychiatry at Midwestern
University in Glendale, AZ. He lectures to all four years of medical students
as well as Physician Assistant students on all areas of psychiatry. Dr. Wagman
has been the Attending Psychiatrist and Assistant Director of the adolescent
inpatient program at Friend's Hospital in Philadelphia for 25 years. He has
also served as attending Psychiatrist to the Renfrew Center in Philadelphia, an
inpatient and day treatment center for eating disorders.
Dr. Wagman
performs psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and psychotherapy for
individuals aged 12-55. He enjoys working with a wide spectrum of psychiatric
disorders including: depression, anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive
disorder, eating disorders, bipolar disorders, adjustment disorders,
personality disorders, and psychotic disorders.
Dr. Wagman believes in
the holistic approach to the treatment of psychiatric disorders. He feels that
the biopsychosocial model of medicine is the most appropriate way to approach
treatment. The aim is to enable a person to develop the tools necessary to heal
so that they can return to a healthy lifestyle and have a real opportunity to
succeed in whatever life choice decisions they make.

Joel Hutchinson,
Ph.D. is a Licensed Psychologist and, in addition to his clinical
staff position at A New Beginning, is the Director of Student Counseling
Services on the ASU East campus. He received his doctorate from the University
of Texas at Austin, his M. Ed. from Boston College, and his B.A. from Brown
University.
Dr. Hutchinson has over twenty years of clinical
experience covering a full range of clinical issues with a diverse group of
clients. He provides individual, group, and couples psychotherapy, and offers
supervision to therapists, consultation and a broad range of workshops on
varied topics. Dr. Hutchinson is a member of the Arizona Group Psychotherapy
Society Training Committee and has provided group psychotherapy training to
doctoral and masters level therapists for over fifteen years. He has led
numerous coed and men's therapy groups and has conducted numerous
psychoeducational groups and workshops on gender communications. He has had a
long-standing interest in the similarities and differences between male and
female cultures and the impact of early gender role training on men's and
women's communication and expressive styles.
Jenny Hazel, M.A., L.P.C., is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Jenny has a master’s in counseling degree and is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. She has 6 years of inpatient experience with eating disorders working at Remuda Ranch, where she has worked with adolescents, adults, couples and families. She has also worked with personality disorders, anxiety, OCD and substance use issues, trauma, grief and loss. Jenny has co-written for Remuda on the topic of athletes with eating disorders and has been consulted for her experience and expertise in the area of body image. Jenny’s philosophy is to help clients gain insight onto the underlying issues, challenge core beliefs, understand problematic behaviors, identify core needs and give clients tools so as to promote change and healing.
Debra Landau-West,
M.S., R.D. has been a dietitian in private practice since 1980.
Debbie comes to A New Beginning as Co-Director of Programming for the Meal
Success Program. Specializing in eating disorders during most of her years in
practice, Debbie has also served as a consultant to several eating disorder
treatment programs. She was Director of Dietary Services at both Remuda Ranch
and Willow Creek Treatment Center . She has been a speaker at several national
meetings for eating disorder professionals. She brings with her a passion for
developing creative and experiential methods to help in the road to
recovery.
